The name of the city comes from the Achawa Berber, meaning "horns" because of the mountain peaks that dominate and surround it.

                                                  Akchour Waterfalls

Akchour is a small village in Morocco, 30 km from Chefchaouen on the road to Oued Laou.
Located in northern Morocco at the bottom of the Talembote valley, Akchour is a natural valley attracting more and more tourists since the opening of the Talassemtane Natural Park.
The Bridge of God is a famous natural curiosity.
33 kilometers from the blue city of Chefchaouen, in the vicinity of the National Park Talassemtane we find one of the largest natural spectacles of Morocco, the waterfalls of Akchour.
The waterfalls, declared as well as their environment, reserve of the biosphere by UNESCO in 2016, invite to a sensory experience of the richest.
The path to the waterfalls is beautiful and well signposted and has easy access for all family members. The first route also provides access to another important geographical accident, the Pont de Dieu. Arriving at the junction that separates the roads of the Cascade from that of the bridge, we will take the road of the latter following the bed of the El Kelaa river. Despite the slight slope, we can already notice the first waterfalls and wooden bridges. Throughout the path we can see frail cane constructions and ornaments of the road as benches that help to give the area a magical aura.
As the road becomes more complicated, the beauty of the area increases a notch.
The waterfalls are each time bigger until we reach the great waterfall of Akchour where the water seems to have patiently carved a magical decoration of capricious forms the limestone rock.
